Holy Donut!!!

By Chef Brian

Holy Donut!!!

So my family and I vacationed in New England this summer. Started in Maine and visited Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut.  It was a great trip and we are all excited to go back someday but like every trip we go on we look for some great places to eat.  There were quite a few winners but none more so than Holy Donut in Portland, Maine.  We happened upon Holy Donut by doing what I generally think is the best way to find good eats when you’re in unfamiliar territory…ask your server at the restaurant. Most are more than happy to clue you in on other great spots. So when I asked our server at a restaurant we hit up twice because it was so good, Gritty McDuff’s (go there, you won’t regret it) where the best donuts were she immediately said “Oh, Holy Donut” before I could even finish my question.
We’re going now.
She was right!
There was a line at 1:00!!!
Holy Donut makes Maine potato donuts and they are quite a bit denser than what I am used to but I’m not complaining. Once I reached the counter I told them I had never had Holy Donut donuts before but they were highly recommended so what would you recommend for a half dozen?

1.       Maple Bacon.
2.       Blueberry.
3.       Ginger.
4.       Lemon.
5.       Toasted Coconut.
6.       Salted Chocolate.

The hard part was waiting until we got back before digging in. The harder part was splitting each donut between my wife, four girls and me. The hardest part was deciding which was the best then kicking myself for not getting a dozen.  I’m petitioning now for a Holy Donut in Louisville.
